Having reached the grand total of sixty nine years on planet Earth, I've finally been sufficiently self-motivated to get my website current and relevant again. Since the COVID outbreak effectively meant the end of work for me, I've had my focus on fixing up the house in deepest, darkest North Devon that we moved to in June 2019. Now in the autumn of 2025 it seems to finally be finished and no longer provides an excuse not to get out with the camera.
I worked in the fire & rescue service and then became a consultant specialising in the emergency management of disasters. I travelled extensively to many far-flung corners of the globe and always had a camera with me, mainly just documenting the various places that I visited and sights that I saw.
In 2016, I decided that I wanted to take my landscape photography a little more seriously and undertook a planned self-development programme that involved a number of workshops with some talented and well-known photographers and some serious investment in gear. I also committed to developing my skills with both camera and with the 'dark arts' of post-production using Lightroom and Photoshop, a process that continues up to the present day.
It's autumn now, in the early mornings the mist lies low in the Waldron Valley. Overlooking the valley stands a house into which I moved in the summer of 2019. Named, in the rather straightforward but unimaginative Devon fashion, the house was called Valley View. However, the name seemed to lend itself to my ideas for creating a platform through which I could pursue my photography ….. And so Valley View Images was born.
I make no apology in saying the target audience for this website is me. I wanted a platform to show my images, to link with other photography sites and a space for my random musings about life, the universe and photography! Of course, I hope anyone viewing the images or reading the spiel enjoys the experience and leaves the site, a happier and better informed person.
